Surface Transportation Emergency Preparedness and Security - Senior Officials | This course provides an introduction to the roles and responsibilities of preparedness, prevention, and response to emergencies involving surface transportation freight and passenger systems. Participants will be introduced to a clear overview of freight and passenger system threats facing jurisdictions/organizations of public and private officials and the organizational structure that must be implemented according to the National Response Framework (NRF) in an incident. This course will provide information on how to identify threats and vulnerabilities of freight and passenger system operations within their jurisdictions/organizations, to recognize and prioritize the importance of facility and conveyance hardening, to gain familiarization with the National Incident Management System (NIMS)/National Response Framework (NRF) to prioritize organizational immediate actions and response operations, and to develop and apply management/planning tools for counter Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) operations and evacuations. Course Objectives Surface Transportation Emergency Preparedness and Security for Senior Officials or Administrators (STEPS Sr.) course goal is to provide participants with the training necessary to identify the roles and responsibilities of preparedness, prevention, and response to emergencies involving surface transportation freight and passenger systems. Participants will be able to identify the hazards of Hazardous Material/ Weapons of Mass Destruction (HazMat/WMD) (to include special emphasis counter improvised explosive devices (IED)) and apply this information to the applicable areas of an incident. Participants will gain familiarization with NIMS/NRF in order prioritize organizational management needs, resource allocation, evacuation strategies and response operations. Participants will demonstrate proficiency during an incident while providing solutions to minimize the impact to the responders, the citizens, the environment, and the critical infrastructure of the area. | |
Surviving & Thriving a Career as a 1st Responder | This presentation discusses the “Common Reactions” to workplace stress and trauma to illustrate the pitfalls of the First Responder work environment. The effects of job-related trauma as well as how to take control of your “off-duty” time will also be discussed. This course is easily adapted for presentation to different types of First Responder groups who may have different assignments and duties but often share similar “Common Reactions to Stress and Trauma”. Class interaction is encouraged by the Course Instructor. | |

Vent, Enter, Isolate, Search (VEIS) | This class introduces a tactic Vent, Enter, Isolate, Search (VEIS). There will be 4 hours of classroom training and 4 hours of hands-on Training. The class will discuss reading buildings and conditions that may provide an opportunity for rescue. All participants will have to be compliant with NFPA 1500 chapters 7.16.2 and 7.16.3. Nothing shall pass through the face piece such as facial hair. This class is physically demanding, and instructors will take vitals of all students prior to the HOT portion of this class. | |
